FAQ on Genital piercings

performed by Tribal Voice Body Piercing Studio, Plymouth, Devon

This page is designed to inform the reader of the wide range of piercings offered at Tribal Voice in Plymouth, location of specific piercings, what gauge and jewellery is used during the procedure, aftercare advice and a few “did you know” historical piercing facts. Due to the vast variety of piercing placements we have broken the piercings into 4 easy categories:

All the individual piercings listed have an aftercare section and will refer to the sea/rock salt solution that we recommend to use to clean your new piercing. Please read the following which gives more detail regarding this solution and why we recommend it:

The Body Piercer at Tribal Voice will explain to you in detail how to look after your piercing once you leave the studio.
We recommend that you use Sea/Rock Salt and hot water solution twice a day with a cotton bud around the piercing. Sea or Rock salt can be purchased from any supermarkets. When making the salt solution make sure you boil the water and allow it to cool down before using it on your piercing and use a quarter tea spoon of sea salt to half a pint of boiling water. We recommend this solution to clean your piercing with as it is a very natural solution and contains no chemicals. We do not recommend using any other solution than this due to the strength of chemicals in others such as TCP, Tea Tree Oil or Savalon. Your piercing is a small puncture in your skin and your body will react to this and heal the piercing appropriately; you only need to ensure that your piercing is clean and left alone to heal, your body will do the rest! Once you have left the studio it is your responsibility to look after you’re piercing and important that you follow the aftercare advice.

Please read the additional aftercare advice in relation to sex and genital piercings at the end of this section.

The Prince Albert is actually named after Queen Victoria’s husband, the Prince Consort. The story goes that Albert had his penis pierced with a ring called a dress ring so that he could manipulate his privates and prevent an unsightly bulge!

SCROTUM (Sack)
Location: The pouch of skin that hangs behind the penis and contains the testicles can be pierced in multiple places. Most popular placement is a horizontal piercing either side of the natural line between the testicles or the natural lines that are located at the top of sack either side of the penis.

The area of the Perineum is loaded with nerve cells making it highly sensitive to touch. Therefore the Guiche piercing is typically reputed to heighten pleasure during sense.

FEMALE PIERCINGS

The following is a list of female piercings currently offered at Tribal Voice. If however there is a piercing you would like that is not on our list, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will look into it for you.

Vertical Clitoris Hood
Horizontal Clitoris Hood
Inner Labia
Outer Labia

VERTICAL & HORIZONTAL CLITORIS HOOD
Location: The Clitoris Hood is a thin layer of folded skin situated around the clitoris and often totally covering it. It is pierced either vertical or horizontal depending on the individual’s preference.
Gauge & Jewellery: 1.6m needle & 1.6x10m Curved Barbell or BCR (Length of Barbell will depend on each individual) The Curved Barbell is preferred for the vertical piercing whilst the BCR is recommended for the horizontal piercing.
Healing Time: 4-6 Weeks
Aftercare: The hood piercing although daunting is actually quite a simple piercing with very little swelling, bleeding or discomfort once pierced. Because of the location of this piercing it will not interfere or cause any discomfort when going to the toilet whilst it is healing as the hood piercing sits just above the urinary tract. It only takes 4-6 weeks to heal properly and again we recommend using the sea/rock salt solution and a cotton bud to clean it with twice a day.
It is not recommended that you have sex for at least a month whilst the piercing is healing and is important that you use a condom when you do for the first few times.
Please read the additional aftercare advice in relation to sex and genital piercings at the end of this section.

And YES! ladies it is true that this is a very sexually gratifying piercing as it does heighten the senses around the clitoris and can cause orgasms to last longer!!
(This may vary with individuals)

Location: The Inner Labia is the hairless folds of skin covered by the hair covered Outer Labia lips that protect the female genitalia.
It is best to shave any hair from the Labia before they are pierced

Healing Time: 6-8 Weeks
Aftercare: Ensure clothing is not too tight for the first couple of weeks especially undergarments. Clean the area twice a day with the sea/rock salt solution using a cotton bud. We recommend that you do not engage in sexual activity for at least a month while the piercing is healing and that when you do for the first time after please ensure that you use a condom for protection.
Please read the additional aftercare advice in relation to sex and genital piercings at the end of this section.

Did you know?
The motivation behind intimate female genital piercings was ensuring chastity. Men in early civilizations considered women to be their possessions and piercing the female sex organs especially the labia could guarantee their much valued virginity before marriage and faithfulness after. The rings pierced on the outer labia would achieve this with some sort of lock and the Romans were also known to have used this method to prevent their female slaves from engaging in intercourse with their male counterparts.
Thankfully in this day and age female genital piercing is now used to heighten sexual gratification and is seen as being sexy and aesthetically pleasing much like wearing rings, bracelets and necklaces etc.

Genital Piercings and Sex Aftercare
It is imperative for your own and your partner’s health that you follow the advice given regarding sexual activity in relation to a genital piercing.
A piercing is a puncture wound to the skin and needs to be allowed sufficient time to heal. It is recommended that you do not engage in sexual activity for at least a month after you’re piercing as the risk of infection or cross contamination when sharing body fluids becomes a lot higher. Do ensure that you use protection after this time as the piercing will still be in the healing stage but the risk will be lower as the initial healing would have passed at this point.
Please ensure that you look after your piercing whilst it is healing and have the patience to refrain from any sexual activity. It is not worth the risk of losing the piercing or infecting you or your partner but believe me will be well worth the wait and very rewarding if you follow our advice, very good things come to those who wait!!!
